Welcome to Feathers & Fur the first and only bi-college guide to style.
Inspired by current trends, bi-college style and local stores on the Mainline and in Philadelphia, we decided to create an outlet for fashion at Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. So if you're dressed to impressed one day, keep a look out for one of us with a camera. Our blog will feature you, the college fashionista, news about couture, street fashion on our campuses, alums in the industry, and ways to spice up your hoodies and sweatpants. Here is an introduction about ourselves, the backstage cast here at Feathers & Fur.

about her
"My style. What can I say? I love everything black, studded sandals, dark make-up and messy morning after hair. I can rock a sneakers and white t's or leather leggings and 4 inch heels. I am inspired by the urban fusion of Eastern and Western looks, incorporating classic American tailoring in a blazer to the colors and metals of the jewelry I own from a pushcart in the busy sidewalks of downtown Bombay in my everyday style. A standard outfit for me, be it day or night, would be dark denim skinny jeans, a casual baggy vneck tshirt, tons of necklaces and rings, and my cherished leather jacket. My favorite designers/labels are Marc Jacobs, Theory and Chloe. The thing I love most about fashion is that it not only about the runway. Designers think about us, the regular people when they design and every detail that goes into making the garment on your back is full of passion. Fashion is an art form that anyone can participate in."

My biggest pet peeve is people wearing pants that are too short. I just can’t stand it. At all.

about her
"I left my house most mornings listening to my mom tell me how no one was going to 'get' my outfit. Absurdly colored skirts, loose tops and sequined flats inhabited my closet (or the floor) and belts and her favorite tiny bags crowded my drawers (also, the floor). Somewhere between the five minutes when I work up when the bus came, I used her half-awake brain to make something work. Though my style started as the result of a tired and un-clothed girl with too many wild clothes to choose from, it has morphed into something a little more put together, thanks to Carrie Bradshaw - but I still inspirations from her 'just throw it on' phase. I love anything grey and buying over-priced heels that I'll never wear."

description
If I had to describe my style, I would use the words classic, girly and alternative all at the same time. On Monday you may find me in history class rocking a crisp, traditional button-down and black JBrand jeans tucked into mink ankle boots. However, on Friday I will definitely be at the apartments wearing a silk mini-dress and 4” heels (if I haven’t forgotten to sneak my flip-flops into my purse). While Anne Hathaway and Kate Bosworth are all inspirations to me, I look more to the runway when deciding what to wear. My favorite designers include Marc Jacobs, Nicolas Ghesquière and John Galliano. Looking into my closet, one of my most cherished pieces is a mod Marc Jacobs dress that I bought when I was 15. This dress is almost obscenely short and is pure girlish rock ‘n roll: it’s straight out of the 1960s, made out of silk and covered in pink and black hearts. The thing I love most about fashion is that it doesn’t need to be taken seriously. It’s about expressing yourself in your own individual way and the bottom line is that there are no rules to fashion… just have fun!

about her
"My fixation on fashion really began when I was then and received Teen in the mail by some freak accident. I spent the whole day studying what I thought was a "fashion magazine" (no worries, I know better now), writing down ideas for outfits and even cutting out the pieces I liked the most and making magnets out of them. Little kids have lots of time. Ten years later, I've evolved (though still mildly childish) to stripping Vogue, the NY Times Style Magazine (my favorite) and Numero for her walls. If you're walking past Haffner, peek into the windows across from you - the blinds are always up and you'll see countless fashion spreads lining the walls."
Check up on our blog often for new updates: fashionable things happening on campus, reviews of new stores, interviews with boutique owners and locals/alums working in fashion. And chances are you might catch yourself or a friend on the blog! Enjoy and remember to always cultivate your own personal style.

Hey Jules, you live in Haffner now??? I lived there Junior year, in Spanish Hall.... I didnt recognize you at first in your picture-- how exciting to be doing this -- BMC is much more fashion conscious now than when I was there-- people just wore hiking boots most of the time.... Haha
Congratulations on the 1st edition of Feathers and Fur ! I agree with TrexMama that BMC is a more fashinable place. I think there were 3 recognizable groups when I was there: Extreme casual, Preppy, and Chic. You could count on the fingers of half a hand how many students were in the Chic category.
Hi Jules!!! So when is the next issue out? BMC sounds like it is a LOT more fashion conscious now ! When I was there it was The fierce independent look , the Lumberjack look and the where-did-this-foreign-student-come - from- look !! haha. It wasnt that bad -- I exagerrate but your magazine is something I would not have seen in BMC then !!!! Lovve , Ninang
